Deakin's best pictures from the early days

Explore some of the most iconic archival images of university life at Deakin taken during the 1970s to early 2000s.

Built in 1973/4, the Laird and Collins student residences at the Deakin Waurn Ponds campus were among the first buildings on campus. This was acquired from The Gordon Institute of Technology. For some years, they sat like a fort on the sparsely populated campus. Source: Deakin Archives.

On 1 June 1994, Vice-Chancellor John Hay purchased the last bale of wool auctioned at the Woolstores building on Gheringhap St in Geelong. He is pictured with Mr John Yencken, owner of the Lang Willi estate. Later in 1996, after extensive renovations, the building would open to students as Deakin’s Waterfront Campus.
