In 2014, I became a PhD student at Deakin. I remember the first day I entered Building J on the Burwood Campus to take the lift up to the School of Health and Social Health Development, which was then located in that building. When I opened the lift door, I was greeted with the smiling faces of the staff and students who would support me through my ‘earthquake-in-Nepal’ bumpy international PhD journey!

Being a nature lover, I also relished the beautiful view of Gardiner’s Creek from what we dubbed ‘our PhD room’. About a year later, our Health and Social Health Development team moved to Level 3 in the (then) new BC Building. While we didn’t have our view of the creek, we gained a new room that would ignite research fires (and laughter) with students from different cultures from all over the world for the next few years.

Despite moving floor levels across many years, the BC building has remained my home as I have moved from one academic role to another!
