A group photo of Deakin students in the 1980s

I was an international student from Malaysia and came to Deakin University to study architecture at Waurn Ponds Campus in 1980.

It was my first time overseas and there were many ‘first time experiences’ for me during this seminal period of personal growth in mindset, attitudes, worldly knowledge and emotional strength. I soon realised at this time of my life, I held the keys to immense power to shape my own destiny.

Along the way, the academic and administrative staff I met and the people I studied with were huge in their influence, company and friendship. All have become lifelong friends, so much so, it matters not how physically far apart we reside, I will always be connected in spirit and soul to my Deakin home.
