While studying at Deakin, I loved playing on our Architecture Football Team in 1984.

I believe it was the Head of Sport Development who organised a small intra-varsity competition to foster sporting activity among schools and organisations within the university, as well as from The Gordon outside the university.

These matches were played on Belmont Common and various sports ovals at the Waurn Ponds Campus, including the main oval and the lower cricket oval.

While not an exhaustive list, some of the participating teams included:

  • Residents (Navy with red chevron)
  • Architecture (Red, white, and black Vertical panels)
  • Commerce (Navy and white hoops)
  • Science (Yellow jersey)
  • Gordon (Green jersey)

The competition served as a terrific social outlet. When player numbers were low, female students pulled on a jumper and joined in. Even one of our professors, who was quite handy, participated on occasion when numbers were short.
