My best Deakin memory is my graduation ceremony. I vividly remember the pride I felt as I was fitted with my gown and cap. I still recall the anticipation of hearing my name called to walk up and receive my testamur – it still makes me a little nervous even now. After years of imagining that moment, I stepped forward, fumbled the doffing of my graduation cap (the act of touching the front of your cap with your right hand as a gesture of respect to the Chancellor or other academics) and heard a muffled laugh from my best friend in the crowd. To this day, we still laugh about it.
