Roots of Resilience: Celebrating Deakin Warrnambool’s History

This exhibition traces the campus’s evolution from the Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (WIAE) to its 1990 merger with Deakin. It explores student life, the strong sense of community, and initiatives like the Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP) and the Mentors of Deakin program (MoD squad) that support rural and underrepresented students.

The exhibition also highlights Warrnambool’s research contributions, from regional healthcare innovations to clean energy advancements at the Hycel Technology Hub – Australia’s first hydrogen fuel cell research facility, developed in consultation with members of the Peek Whurrong, Gunditjmara/Maar Nation and Keerray Woorroong, Yorta Yorta, Maar Nation. Through archival treasures, personal stories and pioneering research, Roots of Resilience captures the enduring spirit of innovation, inclusivity and resilience that defines Deakin Warrnambool and its deep ties to the natural and social landscape.

Exhibition runs from Monday to Friday from 9 May to October 2025.
